Review highlights
Based on 4,523 reviewsCool Runnings Jamaican Grill is widely praised for its authentic Jamaican flavors and warm, inviting atmosphere that resonates with many customers seeking a homely dining experience. Popular menu items such as oxtails, curried goat, and brown stew chicken receive frequent praise for their taste and quality, though some diners note inconsistencies, particularly with the seasoning and portion sizes of certain dishes. The restaurant's variety and freshness are generally well-regarded, appealing to both dine-in and delivery patrons. While the food quality stands out, feedback on service is mixed, with occasional remarks about inattentiveness or order inaccuracies. Overall, Cool Runnings is seen as a flavorful, comforting option that sometimes falls short in service consistency.
Authentic Jamaican flavors, friendly and attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. My wife and I love this place—I'm all about the oxtails, and she’s hooked on the curried goat. And don’t forget to grab some patties for the road.
I came stop here before getting into creating content for the week, and it was a great choice. Food was great and filled with flavor, the chicken combo plate (I got curry chicken and brown stew) was well worth the price and was delectable. Everything was fresh and well-made. My only complaint was the service being a bit nonchalant, and I had to go back in to get the Jamaican beef patty I ordered once I realized it wasn't there. Other than that, great place, and I would return before getting into my content and music again. Great place to eat!
They offer an excellent selection of items, one of my favorites among all the Jamaican restaurants I’ve tried. Please do add this picture for the item Stir Fried Shrimp in Ubereats app.
Tonight I stayed in, ordered DD. The food was fresh, it was NOT worth $29 for this combo plate. The best flavor was from the brown stew chicken, in which I was given 3 pieces. The plate was covered w/rice. A little cabbage on top. (Cabbage was good tho) The Oxtails were tender & bland. 2nd time I’ve tried their oxtails recently after giving them a rest for a couple years. It’s been a long run, not gambling with my coins with this spot anymore…. All the best!
Cool Runnings is one of those places that feels like more than just food it feels like home. The flavors are delicious every single time. This morning I had Saltfish Cookup and with each bite I was transported back in time sitting across from my Dad eating a plate he made for me and my family. That kind of memory lives in the food here. On weekends getting a plate of Saltfish Cookup (or as I grew up calling it, Codfish) is nostalgic. Root vegetables ground you, literally. They nourish the root, steady the body, and remind you where you're from. Root vegetables are the ground provision that comes with the Saltfish. It consists of boiled green banana, boiled dumpling, and yams. It's so, so good. I've had many dishes from Cool Runnings since discovering it and it's all been good. The oxtail, curry goat, patties, rice and peas, jerk chicken, escovitch, are all full of flavor and heart. The chefs put in the work and it shows. It's not located around the corner from me by any means, but it's worth the trip because food like this isn't just about taste, it's about feeling. If you know, you know. And, if you don't, go find out.
We recently stopped by Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill on Bellfort, and the experience was full of flavor from the start. The food came out hot, well-seasoned, and satisfying, with that authentic taste that keeps you coming back. The staff was welcoming, the service moved smoothly, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and inviting. It’s the kind of place where you can take your time and enjoy a good meal without any rush. Cool Runnings Jamaican Grill reflects what makes Houston’s food scene special, real flavor, good people, and a place that feels grounded and genuine. Highly recommended! SEE YOU AT THE TOP
Stopped by here to satisfy my craving for Jamaican food. You can't go wrong with the Ox tails with rice/beans cabbage and plantains! The Jerk chicken is good also! You can seat in the lounge area next door if you want to enjoy your food right then. Happy eating!
So tasty so juicy, let me tell yall. This not our first time. More like our 3rd or 4th time patronizing. Though we had no complaints about our food, I gave 4 stars because during one of those visits when we ordered in atead of telling us that they no longer had that item for the day, the waitress just allowed them to put whatever on our plate and didnt mention it even when she brought the food out till we asked her about it. Now to the food! What we ate: 1) Oxtails plate with peas and rice and vegetable medley. Oxtails- Were tender juicy and flavorful. I love the amount of gravy that they gave to go over the rice, they definitely were not stingy with it. Rice and peas- the rice and peas had a wonderful flavor the peas were nice and tender and the rice was cooked well. Vegetable medley- the vegetables were amazing. They had a wonderful taste to them. They were lightly salted with butter. 2) Jerk chicken with a side of vegetable medley Jerk chicken- the jerk chicken had a nice smoky flavor it was juicy and very tender. Vegetable medely- the vegetable mint leaf is just the same as above. Nice taste lightly salted with butter. Sides: Plaintain- was browned just thebwaybwe like them Drink: We had some of their juices i believe I had mango and the one my partner had he said it was really sweet. Oh he had the fruit punch i believe. We would visit again! Some nights they have live band playing.
